Dove permits available

flasher.gif (1653 bytes) Lake Shelbyville will hold in advance, a public drawing for permits to hunt doves on five of their  managed shooting sites for opening day, September 1.
flasher.gif (1653 bytes) Applications for the drawing must be received by the Lake Shelbyville Project Office  no later than 4 p.m. on July 31.
flasher.gif (1653 bytes) Successful applicants will be notified within two weeks of the drawing date.
flasher.gif (1653 bytes) A $20 permit insurance fee will be assessed that allows two hunters the use of a designated blind  provided at one of the sites.
flasher.gif (1653 bytes) On September 2, public drawings will be held at each Corps-managed field where permits were required on opening day.
flasher.gif (1653 bytes) Beginning September 3, and throughout the remainder of the 1998 season, hunting in the five areas will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
flasher.gif (1653 bytes) No permits or drawings will be necessary. However, hunting will only be allowed from designated blinds.
flasher.gif (1653 bytes) Prospective hunters should note that shooting hours on Corps-managed sunflower fields at Lake Shelbyville will be from noon - 6 p.m. on September 2 land only.
flasher.gif (1653 bytes) Beginning September 3, statewide shooting hours, sunrise to sunset, will prevail.
flasher.gif (1653 bytes) Application forms are available by: writing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lake Shelbyville Project Office, RR #4, Box 128B. The office is also open Mon.- Fri. from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.,  774-3951.

flasher.gif (1653 bytes) Whether your pursuit is covey of Quail or that trophy Whitetail Buck, you will find them around Shelbyville.  There are both State and Federal ground available for your hunting pleasure.
flasher.gif (1653 bytes) Last year's deer seasons yeilded 1022 deer in Shelby County.  There is even an annual deer hunt for persons with disabilities held at the Okwa Bluff Group Camp.
flasher.gif (1653 bytes) Bird hunting include Waterfowl, Quail, Dove, Pheasant, and even Turkey.  A controlled Dove hunt is held on the first two days of dove season in managed sunflower fields.  Participation is limited for safety reasons.  1996 was the first year for Turkey hunting in Shelby County, but the Turkey population is steadily increasing.
flasher.gif (1653 bytes) Rabbit hunting is also grown popular, where as the Central Illinois Rabbit Hunter hold a rabbit  hunt twice a year.
